Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are there so many Buddhas?

The statues of the Buddha you see around this space are not objects of worship - they are reminders. Each one represents a quality we are trying to cultivate:

  • Peace
  • Mindfulness
  • Compassion
  • Awakening

Just like how a cross or an image of Jesus might remind a Christian of love and sacrifice, a Buddha statue reminds us to pause, breathe, and return to the present moment.

Many people display images of figures that inspire them—saints, teachers, or spiritual guides. The Buddha is one of those figures. He was not a god, but a man who dedicated his life to understanding human suffering and how to live with clarity and kindness.

Is Buddhism sacrilegious?

Not at all. Buddhism is not sacrilegious - it doesn't oppose or attack other religions. In fact, many people practice Buddhism alongside their existing faith because it’s more of a philosophy and way of life than a religion in the traditional Western sense.

Buddhism doesn't require belief in a god or gods. It focuses on mindfulness, compassion, self-awareness, and inner peace. Its core teachings are tools for living with more intention and less suffering—not dogma to replace other beliefs.

How is Buddhism different from a religion?

While some branches of Buddhism include devotional elements (like rituals or imagery), the heart of the practice is personal transformation through meditation, ethical living, and wisdom. You’re not asked to "worship" the Buddha; rather, you're invited to learn from his example, much like you would a great teacher.

Why do people from other faiths practice Buddhist principles?

Because practices like mindfulness, compassion, and non-attachment can deepen one's existing spiritual life. Many Christians, for example, find that meditation helps them feel closer to God, not further away. Buddhism doesn’t conflict with Jesus’ teachings about love, humility, and forgiveness—it complements them.

Buddhism is not about worship or conversion. It’s about being present, kind, and peaceful.  Many people of all faiths—including Christians—find meaning and healing in these teachings. You are welcome here, just as you are.

What should I wear to meditate?

Anything will do, but comfortable clothing is best.  Dust from the Himalayan salt may get on clothing.

What happens in the guided meditation room?

Guests are invited to choose from a variety of comfortable seating options for their meditation or salt therapy session. Many prefer to lie directly on the warm Himalayan salt granules, drawn to the gentle heat and the natural release of negative ions that support relaxation and detoxification.

Other options include a zero-gravity chair for full-body support and two cozy hammocks for gentle, weightless rest.

At the start of each session, we offer a thoughtfully selected aromatherapy oil that aligns with the day’s intention—helping you ground, uplift, or center yourself.

Whether you're brand new to meditation or returning to your practice, our sessions are designed to be gentle, inclusive, and deeply grounding. There's no pressure to sit perfectly still or “clear your mind.” Instead, we offer a supportive space to simply slow down, reconnect, and breathe.

What do you DO during guided meditation?

If you’ve never meditated before—or have tried and felt like you were “doing it wrong”—you’re not alone. Guided meditation is meant to support you, not challenge you. At Studio Zen, we walk you through it step by step. You don’t have to figure anything out on your own.

  • What to Do with Your Mind: You don’t need to “clear your mind” or stop thinking. That’s a myth. Instead:
    • Gently follow the guide’s voice. You’ll be invited to focus on your breath, your body, or a calming image like light or nature.
    • Let thoughts come and go. It’s completely normal for your mind to wander. Just notice it, and gently come back to the voice or the breath.
    • Don’t force anything. There’s no right or wrong way to feel. You might feel calm, or you might feel distracted—and that’s okay.
    • Stay curious. Treat it like exploring a quiet space inside yourself, with kindness and without pressure.

You’re Simply Practicing Presence.

Guided meditation is like having a companion walk you through a peaceful moment. All you have to do is listen, breathe, and let yourself be. Every session is an invitation to soften, ground, and reconnect—with no expectations and no judgment.   At Studio Zen, we believe meditation should feel accessible and nourishing—not like another task to master. You can’t do it wrong. Just show up and breathe.

What types of guided meditation will customers experience?

Our guided meditations may Include:

Should I bring crystals?

Crystals and stones are always encouraged. We often recommend rose quartz, clear quartz, and amethyst for their calming, heart-opening, and clarifying energies—but all stones are welcome. Bring your favorites or choose from what we have available in our gift shop.

Why are healing stones used at Studio Zen?

Throughout history, cultures around the world have used natural stones and crystals for healing, grounding, and spiritual support. From Indigenous traditions to Eastern medicine, these stones have been respected not just for their beauty—but for their energy.

Do stones and crystals really have energy?

Yes—just like everything in the universe, stones vibrate at a natural energetic frequency. Crystals are formed deep within the Earth over thousands or even millions of years, and that long process of pressure, heat, and stability gives them a strong, steady energetic pattern.

How can crystals and stones help me?

When we’re stressed, unbalanced, or overwhelmed, our own energy can feel scattered or heavy. Healing crystals and  stones help by offering a calm, grounding vibration that supports us in returning to a more peaceful state.

You don’t have to believe in “magic” for stones to help.
Just like holding a warm cup of tea or sitting by the ocean can soothe your nervous system, crystals can offer subtle, steady comfort by connecting you to the earth and to yourself.

How do I work with healing stones at Studio Zen?

At Studio Zen, you may notice we often incorporate rose quartz, amethyst, and clear quartz into our sessions and meditations. These three stones are gentle yet powerful tools for emotional healing, inner peace, and energetic clarity.

  • Clears negative energy and helps set intentions
  • Aligns and balances all chakras
Hold in: Right hand to project energy or amplify intentions

How do I create a healing energy field with crystals?

  • Lay stones in a triangle around the body
  • Use clear quartz above the head and below the feet to create a healing field

At Studio Zen, we believe healing tools should feel empowering and approachable. Whether or not you believe in the energy of crystals, simply holding a stone with intention can be a powerful reminder of your own inner strength and calm.

Why did Studio Zen create a heated Himalayan salt floor for the mediation room?

Soothing warmth for mind and body:  We intentionally designed our space with a heated Himalayan salt floor to create a grounding, restorative environment. The gently heated salt granules create a cozy, womb-like environment that helps:

  • Relax muscles and joints
  • Soothe the nervous system
  • Promote gentle circulation, especially when lying down and fully supported

Supportive for breath and alm. While we don’t use a halogenerator to infuse salt into the air, the clean, mineral-rich environment:

  • Encourages deeper, slower breathin
  • May offer mild relief for sinuses or tension by calming the nervous system
  • Creates a peaceful space that reduces stress-related breath holding and shallow breathing

Subtle Negative Ions for Clarity. When warmed, Himalayan salt is believed to release negative ions, which helps:

  • Improve overall air freshness
  • Reduce mental fog and promote a sense of clarity
  • Enhance feelings of calm and balance

Our salt floor isn't a clinical treatment—it’s a sensory, energetic experience designed to relax, ground, and restore you. Come lie down, let go, and allow your breath to deepen naturally.
